Wellness is a Community Project

Our Story
How it Started
To explain where we are and where we’re going, I have to go back to where it started...In 2019, I made the leap and opened my first massage space. I chose the name Empower Wellness because, in a world so obsessed with “health” and being “healthy,” I saw how many people were left out of that conversation. What I hadn’t fully realized yet, but was clearly already drawn toward, was the desire to support the whole person. Not just the body. Not just the pain. But the life they were navigating. The World Health Organization defines wellness as "a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” That’s what I was reaching toward. That first version of the dream didn’t fully get the chance to bloom. 2020…the year of “perfect vision”… need I say more? But in that season of upheaval, I learned a lot about a lot of things.I became a mother.
I gave my business another go in a new space
A hypnosis practitioner.
An NLP coach.
A therapeutic timeline technique facilitator.
I became a mother again.
I became a doula. And through it all, I found myself even more committed to helping people find the tools they need to do the best they can in this wild world. It was 2022, when I became deeply influenced by the work of Dr. Gabor Maté. While Karl Marx was the first to name it, it was through Maté’s voice that the idea really stuck with me: that humans cannot thrive when alienated from four key elements- nature, each other, our work, and ourselves. That truth really struck a cord and it made so much sense.
It shaped how I view wellness, care, and the world we’re trying to live in.It helped me see how the stories were told. What we are told about success, healing, productivity, and worth. And how we have warped our ability to truly see ourselves and what’s possible.
Why This Also Had to Be Practical
It has always been a deep desire of mine to make massage and similar therapeutic modalities truly affordable. But in 2022, when I moved into the office I’m in now, I finally looked at my pricing through a strategic lens. Numbers not just based on what everyone else was charging, but through the actual math of sustainability. With the help of coaching, I learned to factor in:-My unique operating costs
-My personal bandwidth
-The emotional labor and off-the-clock hours
-The reality of what it takes to hold space without burning outThe number I landed on felt high at first. It took time to say it out loud without flinching. It priced some people out. But I knew it was the number I needed if I was going to sustain a space that could hold all of this vision. The biggest thing I learned was that pricing is not personal...it's math. And that’s where the dilemma set in... that eternal tug-of-war faced by nearly every healer, therapist, or helper: Wanting to serve the people who need it most, and also needing to live, eat, rest, and thrive. The truth is: those things don’t usually go hand in hand. But I believe they should.I believe the work of healers, teachers, doulas, and community caregivers must be honored, sustained, and fairly compensated. This essential, so they can keep showing up.
And I believe that the resources and practices that nourish people the most shouldn’t be reserved for the privileged few. Those two truths can exist together. The Empowered Wellness Project is my attempt to bridge that gap and to create a structure where community support and practitioner sustainability are woven into the same ecosystem.
A project that serves both the community and the people who serve it.
